Referrals are accepted from shelters, domestic violence programs, drug and alcohol recovery programs, transitional housing programs, and other faith based agencies. In addition, churches may refer families.
Single mothers who are homeless or at immediate risk of becoming homeless may refer themselves to Bridge of Hope. Families defined as being “at risk” would include those who are facing eviction, those who are living temporarily with family members or friends, those living in recreational campers or cars, and those who are forced to move from week to week.
Objectives and Measures of Success
Each participant’s success in Bridge of Hope is measured by the achievement of the following outcome based objectives:
i. Has the family attained and maintained housing?
ii. Has the woman attained financial self-sufficiency through employment, budgeting and through the securing of adequate transportation, child-care and health insurance?
iii. Has the family developed a support network through mentors and other people?
iv. Has the woman grown in areas of holistic living, including parenting and emotional/spiritual/physical health?
Using the above measurements of success, 80% of the families entering the program successfully complete Bridge of Hope.
Individual weekly meetings between staff and the women in the program include a review of progress towards the goals in the service agreement, as well as supportive counseling and budget training. Staff also meets monthly with the mentoring groups to provide ongoing training and support, as well as any individualized resources a group may need during the mentoring process.
